COMPOSERS THOUGHTS – THE JOURNEY

Song Title: The Sun will Rise again

Composers Thoughts: Life sometimes throws us majors blows. My daughter went through a divorce that completely broke her to pieces. It took her almost two years to get herself back together. During those times in life when you are at your lowest lows, you think that the sun will never rise again. But once she got yourself back on her feet, she realized that there is hope and “The Sun will Rise Again”

Song Title: Kaleidoscope:

Picture this as an upbeat feel good grooving song. Hear shakers and percussion section in this song. My daughter heard the song and she pictured looking through a Kaleidoscope and seeing all the beautiful colors moving around.

Song Title:Tribute to Late West Texas Piano Player Doug Smith

Wow, when I heard the Song, I was blown away and said this guy is 100 times better than I could ever be. It made me want to find out who he was and try to meet him. I searched on the web and was saddened to read that he was in a car accident where he rolled his vehicle on July 25, 2007 and was diagnosed as a quadriplegic, and confined to a wheelchair. Then read where he eventually passed away in 2016. Just broke my heart to read that. As I started looking and researching his life, I immediately connected with him when I read that He was the same age as me and  also played piano by ear and grew up in a small Texas town.

As I continued reading about his life, I ran across this Video of him sharing his story of his accident and how the Craig hospital created a device that would allow him to still play piano.

When I got to 2:07 to the 2:38 mark of the video, I heard that little lick he did. Right then, The Lord stirred my heart and told me to write a song that would pay tribute to him. I wanted to have a piece of his music in my composition. I took that little lick he did and created this song.  Thats how this composition came about.

Song Title: You Took My Heart With You

I picture this song spewing with emotion, I pictured a scene of a Father and Daughter who were really close and very wealthy. They owned a Horse Ranch and they both ran the Ranch together. Unexpectedly the Dad became ill and within a couple of months the Dad passes away with the Daughter at his side.

This song picks up right as the Dad is passing with her by his side.  The Daughters heart is completed broken.  She realizes that its now up to her to keep the Horse Ranch going, to carry the Dads legacy on. The scene moves to an aerial view of the burial site, and then moves to her crying staring out of these Huge Glass windows in their family office that overlooks the Horse track and stables. Then it moves to her in the horse stables hugging one of their prized horses and weeping. She looks up to the heavens and tells her Dad “You Took My Heart with You”.  This song captures that whole emotional scene in the movie of her having to pick up the pieces and figure out how to move forward.

Song Title: THE JOURNEY

Picturing a scene in a WWII movie where the main actor is coming off the battlefield. His platoon has completed their 2 years in the battlefield and its now time to come home. I have included a short clip to give you a feel. The video clip I included is from Vietnam war, but I am picturing this scene during WWII. I could not find a clip from WWII. But you should get the feel.

I am picturing this song capturing the following scene. This song picks up the next morning when it is time to begin “The Journey” home. There is no speaking during this scene. Picture a lonely solitary battle scared solider lost within his mind trying to figure out how he is going to be able to re-enter and re-acclimate to civilian life after two years in the battlefield.

The intro part of the song captures the aerial scene of a jeep driving down the road pulling into the encampment and pulls up to his tent where he spent his last night in the field. He steps out of the tent with his duffle bag of his personal belongings and throws it in the back of the jeep and jumps in. Scene then moves showing their jeep going down a bumpy dirt road headed to the train station. When they arrive, he gets out and boards the train. The scene then moves to him in the train, he has a blank glassy eyed stare as the train travels the German countryside which you see in the background as it heads to France to board a Ship that will bring him home.

During the Bridge part of the Song 1:12 mark is when I picture him dosing off during the train ride and getting flashbacks of a bloody battle scene and quickly wakes back up. He dosing off several times during the song and keeps having flashbacks. Then the scene moves to him arriving in France, exiting the train and finishes with him walking onto the Ship that would be the last leg of “The Journey”.

Song Title: Eerie Night

This song took me to a suspense scene of a movie. Like a Sherlock Holmes movie where they were called out at night to gather evidence of another murder that just had taken place.

It is a very foggy night.  This song begins as they arrive to the murder scene on a lonely London street, as they get out of their car, they are saddened to find that the person murdered was one of there colleagues who was one of the main detectives that had been tracking this serial killer. I picture this scene as a sad, somber, but eerie suspenseful scene.  As Sherlock Holmes and his partner are gathering evidence at the scene, they get this eerie gut feeling that the murderer is somewhere in the fog watching them.

Song Title: Good Feeling

Just took me to a feel good song that had a good feel with drums and groove to it.

Song Title: Stargazing:

Picture a boyfriend and girlfriend scene. Where a college boyfriend invites his girlfriend over to his family ranch in the mountains of Colorado to meet his family. He has been waiting to show her his favorite spot on the ranch where he goes to de-stress and get away from life. It’s the highest spot on their property. A ridge that overlooks a beautiful valley but is best known for the beautiful view of the Colorado night sky. As the young lady visits with his family, he sneaks off to the ridge and gets a campfire going and sets a blanket out.  He comes back and takes her up to the ridge. This song captures the scene as she arrives and is taken back by the amazing view of the crisp Colorado night sky. And as they lay on the blanket stargazing for hours as she is mesmerized by God’s beauty and creation.

Song Title: New Beginning

Did not have a particular scene. Just thought about the saying about Everyday is a New Beginning. “Every Day is a chance to begin again. Don’t focus on the failures of yesterday, start today with positive thoughts and expectations.” “Forgiveness says you are given another chance to make a new beginning.”

Song Title: Breakout

I pictured this song as a high energy action scene song. Picture a scene in a movie  like a “Mission Impossible” or a James Bond 007 movie where the main actor starts his plan to Breakout of where they have him captive.
